In many UK universities, students’ first-year grades do not contribute to their final degree classification. The first year provides a critical period of transition, shaping students’ confidence, help-seeking behaviours, sense of belonging and engagement with their subject and university life. Student support is an important pillar of this foundation, and students’ voices are important in creating the right type of support.
