Universität Hamburg—University of Excellence is one of the strongest research educational institutions in Germany. Our work in research, teaching, educational and knowledge exchange activities is fostering the next generation of responsible global citizens ready to tackle the global challenges facing us. Our guiding principle “Innovating and Cooperating for a Sustainable Future” drives collaboration with academic and nonacademic partner institutions in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and around the world. We would like to invite you to be part of our community to work with us in creating sustainable and digital change for a dynamic and pluralist society.

The Kiel Institute for the World Economy sees itself as the research institute in Germany for globalization issues. Our researchers investigate the drivers and effects of international economic activity, the integration and disintegration of global markets as well as the opportunities and limits of political action in open economies.

Responsibilities

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences is seeking two professors (W2) of economics, with a focus on international economics.

The professorships are responsible for research and teaching in international economics. Applicants are expected to have a clear profile in at least one of the following research areas: international trade, international finance, international macroeconomics, monetary economics, migration, international taxation, political economy, international development, or climate economics. The core research areas of the two profiles should complement each other in a meaningful way rather than overlap.

The denomination may be adapted to reflect the specific research profile.

Participation in new and existing collaborative projects in the faculty and University (https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/forschung/forschungsprofil/forschungsschwerpunkte.html) is also desired.

Each position includes a teaching assignment of 2 course hours per week per semester in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences (Department of Economics) at Universität Hamburg.

The two professors will be based in the Kiel Institute for the World Economy as part of a joint research project and academically integrated into the Department of Economics at Universität Hamburg. The two institutions are working together to establish a close collaboration in the field of international economics, and the professorships are a central component of this strategy.

Your profile

We are looking for two candidates with outstanding academic track records and research experience in the field of international economics.

Applicants are expected to have a track record of relevant publications in high-ranking, internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journals. In addition, candidates must have a number of promising research projects in progress.

Successful applicants are expected to be able to communicate their research well, to engage in policy and outreach activities at the Kiel Institute, to contribute to teaching, to participate in international research networks, and to advise students and Ph.D. students.

Applicants are expected to have international experience as well as experience in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects.

The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

German-language proficiency (C1) or the willingness to develop the same within 5 years of appointment is expected.

Additional information

Universität Hamburg values gender equality, diversity, and finding a balance between family life and working or studying. Integrating these values into teaching and management is expected. We also expressly encourage qualified women to apply.

Severely disabled and disabled applicants with the same status will receive preference over equally qualified non-disabled applicants.
