The objective of the Division of Energy Engineering is to bring about the applicability and creativity of periodic changes by improving the qualifications of students as technicians for the reasonable development of resources. Department of Energy & Mineral Resources Engineering
To exploit natural resources in reasonable ways and develop clean energy, we are trying to improve students quality and technology all together as the technicians. It cultivates creative technical manpower to live up to the knowledge-based industrial society of the 21st century. The Department of Advanced Materials Engineering aims to cultivate knowledge for understanding the characteristics of advanced materials by adopting the principles of science into engineering, and developing advanced materials based on such understanding. Furthermore, it teaches students to build academic abilities to understand and apply properties of preexisting materials. The goal is to promote the cultivation of technicians of advanced materials who can creatively research and develop advanced materials that can meet the demands of advanced science by learning theories on structure, property, and analysis based on basic theories of metals, inorganic matters, and high molecules, and conducting experiments based on them.

The objectives of the department is to raise technicians of materials with creativity and practical ability through proper theoretical education and experiments; help students develop amicable personalities required in the society along with the professional knowledge expected from advanced technicians; increase students’ knowledge and understanding of field education through academic and industrial cooperation; and cultivate abilities to develop advanced materials through extensive and professional education on advanced materials.

Department of Fire Protection and Engineering
Founded in 2002 under the motto of 'SAFE KOREA', the Department of Fire Protection and Engineering aims to cultivate fire officers with theoretical and practical abilities as well as innovative professionals who can contribute to the advancement of the fire protection industry. It is the specialized department of Samcheok Campus that has been selected as the part of Gangwon-do's Regional Strategic Industry Promotion University Support Project, and is training experts in the disaster prevention industry. Through cooperation agreements with a variety of domestic and overseas universities, research institutes, businesses and so on, the department strives to help students find jobs and make career choices by helping them build practical abilities.
The first objective of the Department of Fire & Emergency Management is to raise experts of systematic disaster management for special fires. Unlike the Department of Fire Protection Engineering, which focuses on urban fires and facilities, the Department of Fire & Emergency Management offers professional education on special fires including ship fires, automobile fires, factory fires, energy facility fires, and so on. The second objective is to train overall prevention and response experts for forest fire. There are few universities, both domestically and abroad, that offer professional education on forest fires, and the Department of Fire & Emergency Management of KNU is the one and only educational institute specializing in forest fires. The third objective is to raise scientific appraisal and identification experts for fire investigations. With the recent increase in criminal/civil lawsuits against fires, demands for fire investigation experts are rising significantly, and the Department of Fire & Emergency Management is focusing on cultivating professional individuals to meet these social trends.
The curriculum is designed to maximize the capacity of mechanical engineers to undertake crucial roles in implementation of these technologies. Significant effort has also been made to provide students with the ample laboratory works as well as basic theory. The students are catered to gain interdisciplinary understanding of basic as well as applied sciences so that they will equipped with the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing technology trend. The Department of Mechanical Design Engineering aims to train professional technicians of mechanical design who can design and manage a variety of machines and systems. For this, the department offers intensive courses related to mechanical design, mechatronics, automobile engineering, and manufacturing technology. It also specializes in integrated design education for enhanced hands-on skills required for employment and operates the engineering accreditation system to improve the quality of engineering education.
The Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering aims to cultivate future-oriented technical experts with the spirit of cooperation and a sense of professional and ethical responsibilities who can successfully deal with various environmental issues on earth, solve coastal and marine problems using analysis and advanced technologies, and adopt application fields using space information analysis. Based on KNU's founding philosophy of empirical tradition and the College of Engineering’s goal of cultivating creative and future-oriented talents, the department carries out education to raise outstanding individuals with basic and applied knowledge in fields of environment, energy, recovery, marine, and space information; talents with the practical ability to solve problems creatively; and cooperative talents who can achieve joint goals and visions and form healthy relationships.
