Graduate Programs in Economics and Business Data Science (MRes+PhD opportunity)

Small-scale programs
Admissions are highly selective and competitive. A maximum of 25 students from all over the globe are annually admitted to each program. The small scale allows students to regularly call upon the professors and the Director of Graduate Studies for individual advice. Students become a closely knit group: despite the many hours of hard work they always find the time for leisure.

Research Master in Business Data Science
The two-year program (120 EC) is designed to prepare future PhD students in the business and econometrics departments (spanning disciplines such as business analytics, human resources, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and more), with a strong focus on data science. 

The first year focuses on building a solid data science foundation and introduces students to a variety of methodological approaches through coursework. Students are challenged at their own level, with the possibility to enroll in an advanced data science track. In the second year, students further specialize in their business discipline, choosing from the following tracks: 1) Management Science, 2) Operation Research Analytics, and 3) Quantitative Finance.

The growth of big data and advanced analytical methods is reshaping business thinking. As a result, there's a rising need for highly skilled professionals capable of deriving insights to address complex business problems.  

The program helps students jumpstart their PhD trajectory by solid training in research methodologies and direct research experience through the thesis, electives, research internship, during seminars, research clinic, thesis work, interaction with faculty, and teaching experience (e.g., teaching assistantships). Graduates typically continue into PhD programs and pursue academic careers. However, some graduates also transition into research-oriented roles in the private sector or at regulatory institutions (e.g., European Central Bank). 

Research Master in Economics
The two-year program (120 EC) is designed to prepare future PhD students in economics, econometrics and finance. 

In the first year, students receive rigorous training in the core subjects and tools of economics, econometrics and finance. In the second year, students specialize in their choice of the institute’s many fields of research through field course work and writing the research master’s thesis.  The research master’s thesis marks the final component of the program. It typically becomes a student's first academic paper and a chapter in the PhD dissertation. 

Future  

The program helps students jumpstart their PhD trajectory by solid training in research methodologies and direct research experience through the thesis, electives, during seminars, thesis work, interaction with faculty, and teaching experience (e.g., teaching assistantships). Students who complete the master typically continue in a PhD position as the research master in Economics is the main entry point to fully paid PhD positions at the three faculties.
