PhD student in economics - Behavioural economics: applications in the energy sector

We are looking for a doctoral candidate with a master's degree in economics, statistics, econometrics or equivalent and a particular interest in energy efficiency, conservation and human behaviour as well as experimental economics. You will work within a large EU-funded project with other researchers at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Vilnius University. The overarching purpose of this project will be to bring the discussion on inefficiencies in residential energy use from theory to practical application using innovative technical methods and insights from behavioural economics. To accomplish this, we will investigate inefficiencies in household energy use due to various behavioural issues, focussing on the lack of attention and relevant information about energy use and on the financial-energy literacy among Lithuanian households.

Tasks
Your mission will be to develop independent research within the main project’s areas. For example, the project includes development of laboratory and controlled field experiments. You will be involved in setting-up and conducting the experiments as well as analysing the data generated by these experiments. You will be expected to present the research findings at international conferences and publish your research in internationally reputable academic journals. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with researchers from different disciplines and a national energy company, and you are expected to play an active role in this cooperation.

Qualifications
To be admitted for studies at third-cycle level you are required to have a Master’s qualification degree or a higher education degree equivalent to it.

We are looking for a person who is interested in statistical modelling of large amounts of data with applications in the energy and economic fields. Practical experience in analysing large amounts of data using statistical or econometric methods is merit and experience of programming or using software for advanced data evaluation (R, STATA, etc.) as well as training in experimental methods are also desirable. As a person, you are careful and able to work independently. Good oral and written proficiency in English is also required.

Terms of employment
The appointment aims at a PhD degree and the main task of the PhD student is to pursue their doctoral studies, which includes participation in research projects as well as postgraduate courses. The employment is limited to four years full-time. In addition to tax-free PhD scholarship (1st year PhD students receive a monthly scholarship of €722 and later €836), the PhD student will be directly employed (50% of full-time equivalent) in the project as a junior research assistant (additionally about €400 per month after taxes).

Other information
The selected candidate will work under supervision of Dr Andrius Kažukauskas and Dr Jūratė Jaraitė. Both supervisors have more than ten years of international experience of conducting research in the area of environmental and energy economics.
