The University, while offering a wide spectrum of courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, and Commerce and Management, aims at providing quality education to its students. A unique feature of the University academics is the consortium of 29 research centers actively undertaking cutting-edge fundamental and applied research in frontier areas. The University is striving hard to transform the region into a truly developed educational hub by focusing on multidisciplinary approaches in the production and dissemination of knowledge.

The Department of Studies and Research in Economics, one of the leading Social Science Departments at the University, was established in 2005. In tune with its vision "Empowering students to be independent and self-sustaining by imparting life-enhancing skills and quality education", the Department has been catering to the academic needs of students in all its curricular and extracurricular activities. The Department offers a postgraduate programme in Economics and also a Ph. D. programme.

The department is studded with highly qualified faculty members with vast experience in teaching, research and extension activities.

The performance of the students is continuously evaluated through internal assessment, assignments, seminars and group discussions. In addition, sharing of the experience and the exposure gained by the faculty after attending conferences, seminars, workshops and such other academic activities with the students is a regular practice in the Department.

Nowadays, Urban Studies as an object of academic discourse has occupied a prominent place in Social Sciences. As a field of study it is being explored from interdisciplinary perspectives. URBANIZATION is one of the most important categories of understanding the urban space. Different disciplines such as Spatial Science, Anthropology, and Archeology have attempted understanding the phenomenon of urbanization in their own framework. But the basis of this phenomenon is its economic dimension. In the wake of globalization and changing order of world economies, it is interesting to look at economic side of urbanization from new hypotheses and new perspectives. Especially, in the hyper-real Post-modern condition we need to ask different questions about it.

The proper study of urbanization should attempt understanding deeper economic structures involved in the process of population moving towards towns and cities from rural space, and taking up the culture and work prevailing in those urban spaces. The allied categories of Urbanization such as cosmopolitanism as cultural habitus, geographical imaginaries and such other unexplored areas need to be investigated from the point of view of economic transformation. Against this background the Conference aims at exploring hitherto unexplored horizons of urbanization, attempting both Macro and Micro analysis of issues involved in the interface between urbanization and economic transformation.

To provide a platform for academics, researchers and students to deliberate upon contemporary issues of Urbanization.

To sensitize the participants to the issues and challenges of Urbanization.

To evolve strategies and policies for the improvement of Urbanization.
