We invite paper submissions for the 6th Baltic Economic Conference taking place on June 27-28, 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia, organized by the Baltic Economic Association in cooperation with Eesti Pank, Tallinn University of Technology and the Estonian Business School in Tallinn.

We welcome full-length paper submissions from all fields of economics and finance. Each paper will be assigned a discussant. Authors of accepted papers implicitly agree to be a discussant at the conference. The conference will feature two special sessions: “Insights from micro data for international trade”, and â€śThe return of inflation: Economic consequences and policy challenges”. Accepted submissions will be automatically allocated to the relevant session. We nevertheless encourage to submit papers even completely unrelated to either of these topics.

Call for papers

We are pleased to invite paper submissions for the 6th Baltic Economic Conference that will take place on June 27-28, 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia. The Baltic Economic Conference is organized by the Baltic Economic Association in cooperation with Eesti Pank, Tallinn University of Technology and the Estonian Business School in Tallinn.

  • “Insights from micro data for international trade”
  • “The return of inflation: Economic consequences and policy challenges”

Keynote Speaker: Gianmarco Ottaviano (Bocconi University, BaffiCarefin Centre, IGIER, CEP and CEPR)

Gianmarco I.P. Ottaviano is a prominent economist, Professor of Economics and Boroli Chair in European Studies at Bocconi University, having previously taught at the London School of Economics and the University of Bologna. He is co-Director of the Research Unit on Globalization and Industry Dynamics of the Bocconi Centre Baffi-CAREFIN and was a director of the Trade Programme of the Centre of Economic Performance in London. Prof. Ottaviano has published many works in international trade, urban economics and economic geography. His most famous papers include “Market size, trade, and productivity” with M. J. Melitz and “Rethinking the impact of immigration on wages” with G. Peri. His recent publications focus on the competitiveness of firms in the global economy as well as the economic effects of immigration and offshoring on employment and wages.

The keynote speech will give a unique perspective into how modern macro and micro data changes the established understanding of revealed comparative advantage.

Conference fees

The conference fee is 75 EUR. There is no conference fee for master/PhD students of higher education institutions from the Baltic States nor for employees of institutional members of the Association. Participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses.

Award for the best paper presented by a PhD student

The BEA prize, amounting to EUR 500, is awarded to the best paper presented by a PhD student. The candidates for the award are not limited to the Baltic region (neither in terms of institution nor nationality). The following rules apply:

  • The paper is presented at the conference
  • All authors of the paper are doctoral students or researchers having defended their thesis in 2024
