The 9th International Conference on ¨The Shadow Economy, Tax Behaviour and Insights from Big Data¨ aims at bringing together researchers studying:
- shadow economy,
- tax compliance,
- taxpayer privacy,
- psychological aspects of tax behaviour,
- money laundering,
- corruption,
- formal and informal institutions,
- trust in institutions.
The conference will provide a great opportunity for scholars across disciplines to explore and discuss recent research on the shadow economy, tax behaviour, and related fields. One focus area is the opportunities that the development of big data collection and AI-powered analytics creates for both academic understanding of tax evasion and related policymaking, but also the resulting challenges.

- Niels Johannesen, Professor of Economics and Business at Oxford University, Director of Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation.
- Norman Loayza, Director of Global Indicators Group at the World Bank.
SUBMISSIONS
Authors are invited to submit full papers or extended abstracts (1500 words) for the Shadow 2025 conference. The submissions will be reviewed and selected by the scientific committee. Papers should be in pdf format and be submitted no later than 23:59 Central European Time on 15 June 2025 at the submission webpage. The acceptance decision will be made available on 6 July 2025.
PUBLICATION POSSIBILITIES
Papers presented at the conference may be submitted shortly after the conference to be considered for inclusion in a special issues of:
Deadlines will be communicated via the conference website. All papers submitted for publication will be subject to the standard refereeing process of the respective journal.
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
We kindly ask participants to register for the event by 23 Aug. 2025 (see the conference website for link to registration). There is an optional social programme on Sunday 28 Sept. 2025, including i.e. sightseeing the Old Town and the Chopin Museum in Warsaw. The fee for the conference (including conference dinner on 26 Sept. and catering at all lunches and coffee breaks) is 280 EUR (including the social programme on 28 Sept.) or 240 EUR (without the social programme).
