The Spanish Association of Labour Economics (AEET) and the University of Barcelona School of Economics (UBSE) will hold the XVI Labour Economics Meeting on July 11-12, 2024 at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Barcelona.

The Labour Economics Meeting aims to provide a platform for discussing crucial issues pertaining to the functioning and outcomes of the labour market, as well as economic policies devised for it. Since its creation in 1995, the Labour Economics Meeting has evolved into the premier gathering for economists specializing in labour market studies, hailing from various universities and research centers. The primary objectives of these meetings are to encourage and disseminate research on the labour market, facilitate expertise development in this field, and foster networking opportunities. This includes exchanging papers and research findings among diverse individuals and institutions on both national and international scales.

The Labour Economics Meeting will feature two keynote speakers: Ana Rute Cardoso (Instituto de Ciencias Sociais, Universidade de Lisboa) and Joan Monràs (Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco). A roundtable discussion on gender and the labor market will feature participants Libertad González (Universitat Pompeu Fabra & BSE), Marta Curto (Generalitat de Catalunya), and Zelda Brutti (Competence Centre on Microeconomic Evaluation, European Commission – Joint Research Centre S.3). In this edition, the Econometrics course preceding the meeting (July 10th, 2024) will be presented by Lídia Farré (IAE-CSIC & BSE). The topic of the course will be Regression Discontinuity Design.

Interested authors may submit their work to the Labour Economics Meeting. Is it possible to submit full papers or extended abstracts, although priority will be given to full papers over extended abstracts of the equivalent scientific interest. Extended abstracts should be at least 1000 words long and include the following information: (a) Objectives, hypotheses, and research questions; (b) Methodology, with a certain level of detail; and, if possible, (c) preliminary results. Papers can be written in either English or Spanish. Unless otherwise stated in the submission process, will assume that authors of papers written in English are willing to present their work in English-language sessions. Please kindly note that only one submission per person will be allowed. Submissions can be done via Conference Maker until February 23rd, 2024. During the submission process, authors will be asked to select the Labour Economic Meeting area that better matches the paper’s subject. More information can be found in the webpage of the Labour Economics Meeting.

As in previous instances, PhD candidates will benefit from a reduced fee, and there will be a new edition of the Luis Toharia Grant for young researchers in labour economics. See the conference’s webpage for more information. There will also be a new edition of the Lluís Fina Prize. The rules and conditions for the Lluís Fina prize can be found on the Labour Economics meeting webpage. The award ceremony will take place during the Gala Dinner (July 12th).
