The workshop is aimed at economists who work at Central Banks, Ministries of Finance, Economic Councils, or other policy institutions. It is also aimed at advanced PhD students and post-doc researchers who work on macroeconomics. It will cover some of the key macroeconomic challenges in the current circumstances, and this will be done by using well-established micro-founded dynamic general equilibrium models supplemented by numerical solutions using the Matlab and Dynare toolboxes.

The workshop will take place from June 2 to 6, 2025 and is hosted by the Bank of Greece and the Athens University of Economics and Business, Department of Economics. It will be held at the main building of the Bank of Greece, located in the center of Athens, Greece.

Aim: The workshop is aimed at economists who work at Central Banks, Ministries of Finance, Economic Councils, or other policy institutions. It is also aimed at advanced PhD students and post-doc researchers who work on macroeconomics. It will cover some of the key macroeconomic challenges in the current circumstances, and this will be done by using well-established micro-founded dynamic general equilibrium models supplemented by numerical solutions using Matlab and Dynare. The key idea is to start with the well-known neoclassical growth model and then add step-by-step some real-world challenges and policies within a unified general equilibrium setting.

Topics:

  • Introduction: Macroeconomic challenges, policy and D(S)GE models as a tool of analysis.
  • Growth, fiscal policy, fiscal sustainability, multipliers.
  • Frictions and the nexus between fiscal and monetary policies.
  • Frictions and the nexus between fiscal and monetary policies in the euro area.

Additionally, distinguished invited speakers (TBA) will contribute to the afternoon sessions with lectures or seminars.

Location: The workshop will take place in the main building of the Bank of Greece, which is located at the center of Athens, Greece.

Timetable: The workshop will start on Monday, June 2, and will be completed on Friday, June 6. There will be a three-hour lecture in the morning of each teaching day, followed by a short lunch break and a two-hour application or an extra lecture or a seminar in the afternoon. During that time, coffees and lunches will be offered by the Bank of Greece.
