The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, constitute a universal agenda aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity for all by 2030. Comprising 17 goals and 169 targets, the SDGs are globally interconnected and indivisible, requiring collective national efforts to achieve them. India, being home to over 1.4 billion people, plays a critical role in the global realization of these goals. Despite notable progress, India faces significant challenges in several areas. India’s journey toward the SDGs is not just a national challenge but a global imperative. With strong political will, innovative policy design, and people’s participation, India can not only achieve the SDGs but also emerge as a global model for sustainable development. This seminar aims to create a multidisciplinary platform for academics, policymakers, researchers, and students to examine India’s SDG achievements, assess economic development trends, and discuss strategic actions for the future.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015, present a global blueprint to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. India, as one of the fastest-growing economies and home to more than 1.4 billion people, plays a pivotal role in realizing these goals. Through national initiatives such as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Ayushman Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Skill India, and Startup India, the country has aligned its development agenda with the SDGs.
While remarkable progress has been achieved in areas like poverty reduction, renewable energy, and digital inclusion, challenges persist in inequality, employment generation, urban sustainability, and climate resilience. This seminar aims to provide a multidisciplinary platform for academics, policymakers, and researchers to
deliberate on India’s SDG achievements, identify gaps, and explore strategic policy directions for inclusive and sustainable development.
