Job Description

Your responsibilities

Within the HSE Unit, we have the QARE Service. Quality and Aging Research for Cable (QARE) service is a quality control service for cables and a research program on cable ageing assessment at CERN accelerators. The activity involves the development of the most appropriate cable testing techniques to perform quality control on cable procured for CERN, and establish aging requirements on cables operating in the CERN accelerators environment.

The QARE Service is seeking a skilled data analyst proficient in advanced statistical methods, big data analysis, and data analytics, with a solid understanding of quality control procedures. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in developing, enhancing, and maintaining the QARE database, dedicated to gathering comprehensive cable lifecycle information. This information includes data from manufacturers' technical data sheets, cables samples tests before and after aging, and condition monitoring in CERN facilities.

The activities in this job are:

  • Working closely with the QARE team to monitor, analyse, and validate testing data collected from various cable sample tests and condition monitoring in radiation areas.
  • Establishing and maintain quality control protocols for cable testing procedures, ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and consistency.
  • Developing and implement statistical quality control methods to identify anomalies, deviations, or trends in test results.
  • Contributing to the design and optimization of test methodologies, ensuring they meet international quality standards and best practices.
  • Collaborating with the QARE materials engineers to provide data-driven insights that enhance the reliability and performance of cable testing procedures.
  • Producing data correlations based on results obtained from various cable tests conducted by the QARE materials engineers.
  • Supporting assessments related to quality control, ensuring compliance with CERN regulations and international applicable standards.

Skills

  • Proven experience in database development and management.
  • Proficiency in advanced statistical analysis and data modeling techniques.
  • Familiarity with quality control procedures, especially in a technical and scientific contexts.
  • Strong programming skills, including proficiency in languages such as Python.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex information effectively.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
