The Department of Economics at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics & Business at Johannes Kepler University Linz and the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) invites applications for a 6 year professorship position under private law for
Economics in the Field of Energy and Environmental Economics
to begin immediately. The position will be filled as an employment relationship under private law, with a full-time workload of 100% according to § 98 UG. The funding for this position is provided through a donation from VERBUND AG. The position is limited to a duration of 6 years; it is intended to provide for a subsequent permanent employment at WIFO and/or JKU.
The responsibility of the professor will encompass the representation and advancement of the field of energy and environmental economics in both academic instruction and scholarly research. From an organizational perspective, the professorship is assigned to the Department of Economics at the JKU. The teaching load is reduced to 2 semester hours per week. Furthermore, it is inseparably linked to a secondment to the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) in Vienna, accounting for 50% of the employment commitment. Moreover, fostering connections with the Energie Institut der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz is encouraged.
An ideal candidate for this position is an accomplished economist with a strong background in applied research, particularly in the field of energy and environmental economics. The candidate should have a proven publication record in high-impact, internationally peer-reviewed journals. Areas of expertise could include, but are not limited to, decarbonization or other quantitative-empirical aspects of energy economics.
It is part of the responsibilities of the successful candidate to actively engage in the research agendas of the Department of Economics at JKU Linz and the research area of Environment, Agriculture, and Energy at WIFO. This includes contributing to stakeholder communication and public relations efforts, securing and managing third-party funded research projects, representing the field in teaching activities, establishing and leading research groups, and participating in international research networks. Additionally, participation in the doctoral program "PhD in Economics and Statistics" of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics & Business is expected.
The successful candidate must hold a post-doctorate/habilitation in the field of Economics or a comparable, internationally recognized academic qualification.
