University College Dublin School of Economics
The UCD School of Economics is now accepting applications for its MLitt/PhD Programme in Economics — a rigorous pathway to careers in academia, international organisations, and the private sector.
From day one, our PhD students join our active research groups and become part of a dynamic community at University College Dublin and across the Greater Dublin Area. The structured four-year programme combines one year of advanced coursework with three years of original research under close supervision by leading scholars. Our faculty covers a broad range of fields, including applied microeconomics (labour, health, education), behavioural economics, macroeconomics, environmental and public economics, international trade, and economic history. Through collaborations with the Geary Institute for Public Policy and the UCD Behavioural Science Centre, students engage in a vibrant research culture with weekly seminars, workshops, and conferences.
We offer several 4-year scholarships covering living expenses (€25,000 p.a.) and full tuition fees. Additional externally funded positions in econometrics/machine learning and environmental economics are also available (see PhD > Application page below).
Application deadline (for scholarships): January 25, 2026
