3rd Development Economics Workshop (DEW 2026) – Durham University Business School

The Department of Economics at Durham University is pleased to announce the 3rd Development Economics Workshop (DEW 2026), which will take place on 9–10 June 2026 at Durham University, UK.

DEW is designed as an in-person workshop aimed at fostering high-quality academic exchange on issues related to economic development. The workshop brings together researchers working on a wide range of development-related topics and methodologies, with an emphasis on careful empirical analysis, theoretical contributions, and policy-relevant research. Sessions are structured to allow ample time for discussion and feedback in a collegial and supportive environment.

The Keynote Speaker for DEW 2026 will be Prof. Oded Galor (Brown University), founder of Unified Growth Theory and a leading scholar in the study of long-run development, inequality, and the historical determinants of economic growth. In addition, Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Head of UNDRR, is expected to participate as a second keynote speaker (subject to final confirmation).

We invite submissions from all major areas of Development Economics, including poverty and inequality; education and health; long-run development; institutions and culture; agriculture and rural development; infrastructure; foreign aid; political economy; and environment and climate change. Both early-career and senior researchers are warmly encouraged to submit their work.
