OJP is committed to advancing work that promotes civil rights and racial equity, increases access to justice, supports crime victims and individuals impacted by the justice system, strengthens community safety and protects the public from crime and evolving threats, and builds trust between law enforcement and the community. The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) seeks applications for the administration of the 2023 Census of Medical Examiner and Coroner Offices (CMEC). The goal of the project is to obtain updated information about the workload, staffing, training, policies, and procedures of all publicly funded medical examiner and coroner (ME/C) offices responsible for providing medicolegal death investigation (MDI). The award recipient will be responsible for 1) developing an up-to-date, reliable, multi-mode survey form; 2) updating the existing frame of ME/C offices to ensure a complete enumeration of all eligible offices; 3) fielding the CMEC for a 2023 reference year, with reasonable efforts to maximize response rates; and 4) providing interim and final clean and accurate datasets.
