Our new MSc Mathematical Economics and Econometrics enables students with a strong quantitative background in subjects such as mathematics, physics, engineering and computer science to gain a master’s level understanding of economics.
This is an intensive one-year programme, which will provide you with a strong grounding in the latest research methods in economics and econometrics. By the time you graduate, you will be ready to progress to a career as a professional economist or to begin PhD study.
Programme content
You will gain an understanding of economics and familiarity with state-of-the art economic modelling and econometric techniques. This knowledge will enable you to work in organisations where an ability to understand current economic research and to undertake econometric analysis is required, such as international agencies, central banks, government economic services, consulting and private industry, or to enter leading international PhD programmes.
Learning outcomes include knowledge and understanding of topics in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics at an advanced level as well as a broad knowledge and understanding of key economic and social issues, principles and models. Students who successfully complete the course will have an ability to apply knowledge of advanced economics as well as relevant mathematical and statistical techniques to evaluate recent research and issues at the forefront of the discipline.

Entrance requirements
To be eligible for the programme, you should have a UK first-class honours degree or its international equivalent, in a quantitative subject such as mathematics, physics, engineering, actuarial science, computer science. The degree must include a course which covers some probability.
Students who have a joint degree with economics and one of the above will also be considered. Relevant experience, or professional or other qualifications will also be considered.
